2:30.3 lap ("record") at Spa-Francorchamps | Michelin Cup 2R K1 | Porsche 991.2 GT3 MR 6-speed
The 2:29 was definitely in there but I was a bit too slow into Raidillon, oversteer into Blanchimont and early on the brakes into bus stop. The rest was nice :lol: It's so difficult to learn the crazy grip of a brand new Cup 2R on the first lap - some of it is gone by lap 2.
NOTE: I estimate that the partially new track surface has decreased the lap time but it's difficult to quantify exactly from my data. Seems like it's somewhere in between 1.5 and 2s for this car and tires. So on the old track it would have been a high 2:31 to low 32.

New asfalt on some parts of the track really helps, but gained a lot of time on the old surface as well now that the suspension setup works like it should. Amazing car to drive now. Very difficult to brake in the right place now for T1 and bus stop since my old references are GONE. I did put a new set of Cup 2R on after this lap.... TBC

Was just getting used to the track when the rain came so this was the quickest lap of the day. T1 was terrible, 1:38 was there for the taking. Awesome event organized by petrolhead days! Fun little run with some lovely British chaps in a 992 RS - Spa is probably one of the worst tracks for that car with the long straights and not too many corners where the downforce makes up time. On some tracks I wouldn't be able to see where the 992 went pretty quickly.. Unfortunately I killed the RS's windscreen in the end when I went wide and clipped one of the notorious Spa gravel traps. 9...

Very cold track, 5C air temp, rear tires were shot after 1.5 days and many laps of Spa - HENCE ALL THE DRIVING MISTAKES :P :D Optimal lap time of all sectors: 2:33.92, so a mid-high 2:34 should have been easy. 2:36.8. Stock car, factory alignment, stock brake pads and fluid, stock tires Michelin Cup 2 N1, haven't even fitted a light battery yet. Could go quicker if I didn't have to abort the 8 previous laps for traffic - tires were past their best here, hot and a bit overpressured.

First time ever driving Spa, rained most of the day.       @radical_driver I'll ask them but my guess is around 3 front 2.7-2.8 rear. They call it "agressive setup" for cup2r. I don't know how it works on Nordschleife 🤷‍♂️ I changed rear sway bar from middle to soft setting because car was too unstable

    Absolutely loved this! I'm curious- do you find the 991.2 challenging to be consistent on each push lap? Cause I'm interested in how many attempts you had, and what the average delta was in your laptimes

      I find it very consistent on these tires, it's the tire more than anything that decides this. Cup2R is faster on the first lap but then drops off in pace. Mostly I was improving by finding out later braking points etc. throughout the session. Probably 7-8 laps

    You had Ehresmann ECU tuning, right? Good for 15HP or so? Was it noticeable during driving or not worth it? You coupled it with over axle pipes without resonators?

      No I had M Engineering tune from the US. Gain was less than 10 HP compared to stock ECU with manifolds, over axle pipes and muffler.

      Not sure 🤔 Manthey set it up. I guess its around 3.0/2.7 more or less. Spa has some new asfalt, faster lap times than before. I think minimum 1.5 seconds faster - but very difficult to pick the braking point into bus stop because there are no lines or bumps to remember anymore. Just black asfalt. Cup 2R lap will be posted next week I think 🙈

      Goeie band ja, werkt in de regen (goed genoeg) is stil op de autostrade en doet goed meerdere rondjes zonder te warm te worden. En slijtage is ook prima. Zeker beter dan een gewone cup2 voor circuit maar record tijden zijn voor de cup2r enz.

      Useful life of the Nankang is pretty long. Cup 2 thread will last longer but it will be driving on wood after a bunch of heat cycles. I always ended up throwing away cup2 that still "looked" very good because they became so damn slow as they aged. The Nankang seems to hold up its performance well with cycling and wearing down.

      @@JCviggen1 Did you have a comparison to the AR-1? I used the AR-1 on the 996 GT3 and by buying the correct sizes the tyre was too narrow and wear was quite bad in the back where all the weight is in a 911.

      @DenfMotorsports I never tried the AR-1 because indeed it's a bit too narrow and I didn't see people being that crazy about them on the 991. The CR-S fills out the 12" rear wheel pretty well.

    Exemplary drive line on Spa for all us 991.2 GT3 drivers that still prefer the manual to the ‘boring’ PDK! Pretty impressive how you go up the Raidillon and don’t go below 190 I still have to see GT3RS drivers being able to do that 😂

      The exit speed from Raidillon is over 190 which launches this car to + 260 km/h at the end of the Kemmel straight. I drive the same car, manual, my exit speed is at best 180 and I get to 258 on the straight with the stock tires. This 4.0 flat six is fantastic l, no need for any mod. 😊

All in good time :D You're not wrong with your estimates, unfortunately a Cup2R has 1 mega lap in it right out of the box and you're always "learning" on that lap so hard to get the most out of it. The guessing braking points didn't help, there was half a sec or so left in it but pretty chuffed with the result regardless.

      They're very good, stable over multiple laps and wear is very decent. They are fantastic in slow corners, much better than cup2, however in quick corners they're not impressing me as much and more on par with cup2.

      Unfortunately I put everything on at the same time which makes it really hard to single out the downforce component, and I struggled with the suspension setup last time at Spa. I guess it must be better but the RS has a more proper wing still. I did buy some risers as well to test in the future to put the wing in cleaner air

      It's been a bit bouncy for me but made a few small tweaks that seem to make it go in the right direction! Car is way waaaay better in slow tight corners. Just struggled a bit with fast ones last time at Spa. Hopefully the tweaks will have settled the rear a bit now.

    And that is how to drive a Porsche. I'm not just talking about the absolute fearlessness - watch how early he gets on the gas on corner entry. That's the secret to these cars. All these people braking up to the very last second are totally missing the point. These cars need to have the weight on the rear tyres on corner entry - then they're on rails at ridiculous speeds like these. 👏

      Wrap metal wire around the valve actuator so it can't move to the open position

      @drkstr7 Well it's the only way, but it is not perfect because there is a lot of backpressure in the exhaust this way robbing you of some power. But it's better than being kicked off the track :)
